a technical analysis of I Want Jessica Naked

The music was a basic bass-and-drum beat before I ran it thru a filter, which transformed it into an acid jazz kind of groove. The muffled high hats and snare give it a vintage, almost 1950s, kind of vibe. The distortion, full with old AM-radio-style pops, adds to that effect.

The “message” part where me and the automated voicemail woman say the word at the same time isn’t something I sought-out to do. I just happened to notice how close our words were during the mix and decided to make them sync, which is perfect for the concept.

I remember the volume of Jessica’s voice being too low in the mix. Every time I tried to bring it up, it would clip. To get around that problem, I copied it to two more tracks, panned them to the far left and right, and did a quick two-step delay for a fuller, hence louder, sound.
