I hate it when girls wear make-up …

Lipstick is the worst. I absolutely despise lipstick and won’t hesistate to let a girl know how ridiculous she looks with it on. But I also hate eyeliner, blush and the rest; any cosmetic worn to hide any area of the face.

Why? Because it’s fake. If she’s temporarily disguising her looks as part of a Halloween costume, to work as a clown, to play a role in a movie or something, that’s one thing. My problem comes when they wear it for real life; going out on a date or every day to work, for example; as if it’s their real face.

They do it to make themselves look better, which seems logical enough. The new “face”; with its new colors, shades and tones; generally does look better in an aesthetic sense. But the point is that it’s not really their face. They’re simply hiding the flaws of it by covering parts of it up.

Of course, flaws are subjective. So in a lot of cases, she’s actually making herself look worse, depending on the opinion of whoever. For me, that’s where it goes back to the lips. Putting the concept of realness versus fakeness aside, I’d prefer a pair of natural pink lips over painted ones any day.

If most guys agree, most girls think not. So I’m stuck in a world where it’s rare to see a pretty face without having to imagine how it really looks underneath the facade; a world where celebrities I wouldn’t glance twice at in real life are deemed beauty queens. And that’s a damn shame.

But it’s a shame game I refuse to play. And I’ve lost out on some potentially pretty girls because of it. “The only thing I don’t like about you is the make-up,” I might phrase it, which is a generous compliment. But they get offended, as if I’ve insulted them.

It generally comes down to self-esteem. They can deny it all they want. After all, we also live in a world where guys; most of whom never wear make-up; aren’t supposed to be “pretty”. But that’s their psychological problem. Not mine. I just know what I like and don’t like. And I definitely don’t like make-up.
