Though I'm generally against the concept of "soundtrack" albums for movies and such, at-least from an artistical stand-point, this one wasn't a bad idea; at-least in theory. That's because none of the songs Michael Jackson performed during the concert rehearsals in the video documentary this album is based on were heard in their original form. They were more-or-less performed live, with acappella breakdowns in some instances, edited down for time or totally revamped.

With that, an album featuring the original studio versions of each song, in the order they're presented in the documentary, makes artistic sense. Besides, that's what most people who are entertained by the video are probably going to want to hear after watching it. I'm a longtime fan, I already have those songs in my collection, and even I was inspired to replay them. Most, after all, are classics you never really get tired of listening to.

What ruins it for this album are the conceptually irrelevant tracks an artistically inept Sony decided to tack-on for sales; which includes a totally random but musically stunning acoustic guitar version of She's Of My Life from *Off The Wall* and not one but two versions of the the posthumously-released title song (http://www.marcellee.com/showthread.php?t=12748), a mediocre ballad that wasn't even planned to be a part of the show.

I dont even care for the taste of coffee, but this drink makes it worthwhile. It's a frozen shake or slush of sorts that tastes like creamed coffee with sugar in it, almost too thick to sip comfortably thru a straw. The top portion, delicious whipped cream striped with sweet caramel, you'll want to eat with a spoon anyway, as it is the best part.

			<title>Whoppers : Peanut Butter ... ( review )</title>

These new Whoppers, made with Reese's peanut butter, taste like the old chocolate Whoppers when you first start to chew; probably because the thin candy coating is the only difference between the two. The insides of both consist of malted milk balls, so it actually takes a few seconds for your taste buds to detect the flavor of peanut butter. When you do, they taste better; but not by much.

It's not the milk chocolate coating that makes this Nestle candy taste as good as it does. It's the California raisins inside. The chocolate does, however, provide an appealing contrast to the sweet fruit that makes even those of us who dont particularly care for the taste of chocolate want to gobble down a box or two.

I'm not at all religious, but, Sweet Jesus, this is some delicious egg nog; even better than the original (http://www.marcellee.com/showthread.php?t=12812). That's because the tastes of egg nog and vanilla, it seems, are a match made in Heaven. Or perhaps it's because this Southern Comfort mix also includes a hint of nutmeg and cinnamon, the latter of which the preparation instructions on the side of the carton suggest you garnish every glass with an actual stick of for an extra kick of spice.

			<title>Brandi Carlile - Give Up The Ghost</title>

For some reason, even on CD, the tracklisting for this album is split into side one and side two, as if it wont play straight thru. That might be a cute concept for vinyl record collectors, but it works against Brandi Carlile as an artist by highlighting the fact that only one side of her album is worth the spin.

Actually, even the worst (blandest) songs are okay enough; certainly as harmless background music. It's just that the best ones, the catchy ones, all reside on the second half.

Before It Breaks, a wintertime ballad about being left alone, wraps itself around a wonderfully drumless chorus, and I Will, which relies on the coziness of its acoustic guitars, sounds quite pleasant.

Both songs deal with heartbreak in one way or another, as does much of the album, and Brandi Carlile; who sings like a cross between Sarah Mclachlan and Lucinda Williams; regardless of what's going on in terms of melody, belts them out with ghostly conviction.

			<title>Fiona Apple - When The Pawn</title>
			<link>http://www.marcellee.com/showthread.php?t=12813&amp;goto=newpost</link>

The full title of this album reads like a poem.

---Quote---
When the pawn hits the conflicts, he thinks like a king.
What he knows throws the blows when he goes to the fight.
And he'll win the whole thing fore he enters the ring.
There's nobody to batter when your mind is your might.
So when you go solo, you hold your own hand
and remember that depth is the greatest of heights.
And if you know where you stand, then you know where to land.
And if you fall, it wont matter cause you'll know that you're right.
---End Quote---
Is it a world record for the longest album title ever? Probably. Is it courageously creative? Perhaps. But it's also stupid; less because it's so annoyingly long and more because, when capitalizing each word and making each sentence run together as one title, it lacks grammatical sense.

Good thing for sweet miss Apple, who's gorgeous even when giving a goofy gummy grin, titles dont really matter much when it comes to the quality of an (audio) album, as it's based almost entire on how the album sounds. And that part she has covered, as she presents other ambigious poems and recites them herself with a classically husky voice and enough heart/soul to make them mean something.

It's producer Jon Brion who directs the music; mostly live instruments you dont necessarily hear on a modern-day pop album, like the violin and the cello. And with his enchanting sounds, he gives these romantic love songs a sheen of musical elegance; the kind that never really goes out of style.

			<title>Southern Comfort Egg Nog ... ( review )</title>
			<link>http://www.marcellee.com/showthread.php?t=12812&amp;goto=newpost</link>

This egg nog, at-least as far as the distributors are concerned, isn't meant to be drank alone. It's meant to be mixed with the premium liquor (liquear?) the Southern Comfort brand is known for. There are even "preparation" instructions on the side of the carton, which has drinkers mixing one quart of this stuff with one cup of that stuff and dusting the top of every glass with a layer of nutmeg.

Such a preparation would, of course, ruin the egg nog drinking experience for a nonalcoholer like myself; because it would both thin its texture, which is smooth and creamy, and alter its flavor, which is sweet and enjoyable and... yeah, quite comforting.
