an "is" and "about" issue I have with the forums
The forums on this site can be divided into two categories; a forum that is what the title is and a forum that is about what the title is.
The Stories forum, for example, is just that; a forum for stories. It is what the title is. If you go there and post a thread about a story, it will be moved; unless, of course, it happens to be a story about a story. The Music forum, on the other hand, is a forum about music. If you go there and post a song, it will be moved; probably to the Audio forum; unless, of course, the song happens to be about music. My issue has to do with drawing a line between the two; in that I'd like to have them separated, instead of going back and forth almost at random. But that would go against, or at-least interfere with, their conceptual order; how one relates to the next in some way or another. My issue also has to do with which category a forum should go in the first place. It's usually obvious; for example, in the case of religion or politics. But sometimes it isn't. Some, like the Movies forum, are actually both. But why movies and not music? Isn't music to audio what movies are to video? No? Then what's the difference? Those are the kinds of tough questions I have to ask myself and have been asking myself since the beginning. It's like a constant struggle toward some logical utopia that may never come; a struggle I dont mind, but a struggle nonetheless; part of my overall obsession with this site. | |||

Hmm, how about separating them without "drawing a line between the two"? Maybe change the style (for example, the colour) of the links leading to and/or the headings of each forum as a way of indicating which type they are.
Or, you could fuck around with the names of the forums to make them all "just forums for" whatever their name is. For example, put the word "About" in front of the name of forums like Music. I doubt that would improve things overall, though. marcellee.com quote ...
