" I Will Survive " - Gloria Gaynor
This is arguably the most popular karaoke hit / club anthem of all time.
The music, almost a cliche in itself, is 1970's disco all the way and the concept, a female declaring her new independence after going thru the trails and tribulations of heart-break, screams women's liberation and independence (I can see hardcore feminists going nuts whenever they hear it). Yes, decades before Destiny's Child's "Independent Woman / Survivor" movement, Gloria Gaynor was getting the groove scene funky with this one. Actually, seeing as though the song was written and arranged by two men, all Gloria Gaynor really does is sing on cue, but, lack of creative credit aside, it doesn't even matter when the music feels this damn good. Whether you're a female who just got dumped by the man of your dreams (and he actually got the nerves to come back later as if nothing happened) or a male DJ lookin for that magic track to get all those old hags on the dance floor, this track is it. Strong. Inspirational. Catchy. Classic. My Rating: 5 (of 5) | |||
