" Haile's Song " - Eminem
I don't mind Eminem trying to sing, because the vocal arrangements of a song is more important than the actual voice singing, at least to me, so his disclaimers ("I can't sing") are unnecesary.
What he should've warned us about is the bittersweet concept of the song. A popular music star putting his little daughter in the stage-light by making a whole song about her is a questionable act, if not a sickening display of emotional exploitation. Unless you're a die-hard groupie swinging your lighter in the night air with a tear building on the ledge of your eye, your stomach will quease, particularly when he hits one of those off-key high notes, transcending the song into pure maudlin terrority. Nevertheless, it's a nice song. The vocal arrangements aren't bad at all. The verses and chorus fit snug with the beat and there's even a cool rap verse. My Rating: 4 (of 5) | |||

It's not a bad song, but it has nothing on Royce Da 5'9"s "Life" (a song for his son). That song is much more meaningful and thoughtful. "Hailie's Song" is entertaining and catchy, but not as touching. Plus, the rap verse is ill but out of place. Attacking his ex-wife with the line "I shoulda seen it comin'/What'd I stick my penis up in?/Woulda ripped the pre-nup up if I'da seen what she was fuckin'" is funny, but does not belong in a song like this. I'd chose Pac's "Dear Mama" and Royce's "Life" over this anyway, but it's not a bad song at all.
